On Getting What You Want

We often notice that the moment we let go of something we were chasing so hard, it suddenly lands in our hands. But that doesn’t mean we should forget our desires and dreams.

The secret is in the blend of dreaming, acting, and holding no rigid expectations. That combination can truly work wonders. When we don’t make ourselves dependent on the outcome, when we don’t tie our happiness to one particular result, we set free an inner strength and dignity. We keep moving forward, trusting that the universe will guide us along the best of the possible paths.

If what we wanted comes true — wonderful. If it doesn’t — then it wasn’t our path, and regret makes no sense. When our desire is sincere and true, events often fall into place as if the world itself were starting to bend toward us.

— Want to be with someone? Let them go. If they’re truly yours, you’ll end up together.
— Want financial success? Stop depending on the material, don’t fixate on what you’ve piled up, don’t sit brooding over your gold.
— Want to win in sport? Stop thinking about the score and the final result. Focus on the process, on every single rally (an example from tennis).

The reality is that nothing in this world actually belongs to us. Anything can be reclaimed at any moment. Let go of our attachments, and we find real freedom — we start acting consciously, not out of the fear of loss. Paradoxically, it’s exactly this that helps us value what we already have like never before.

As the great master Yoda put it: “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.

Here’s to reaching what we want — through dreaming and letting go! 😎
