On Dreams With Meaning and Without

#personal

The other night I had one of the most fascinating dreams of my whole life. I had, as it were, teleported into a world where I was starting a new life in untouched nature, and in that world there were only two people: me and some naked woman, and no one else. We were the only beings on the planet.

The world around me offered every imaginable gift of civilization — from the most basic to the most elaborate and intricate. But I deliberately turned all of it down, tempting as it was. I sensed intuitively that this wasn’t what I needed.

Then I swam underwater through some kind of barrier and, suddenly, stepped out of my body. I found myself in a place where all the consciousness of the Universe resides — eternal, with no boundaries of time, and yet not static. It was a space like the sky above the clouds, in which I could plug and unplug my own consciousness — full of memory, knowledge, skills and experience — into any brain, like a plug into a socket.

I contemplated this place, and it felt as if my whole essence was merging with that boundless, timeless space. I was ready to join another brain in another body, it was so alluring, but at the last moment I stopped. I told myself: “No, I can’t do this. I have obligations in my own body, and I want to go back there.” I returned to my bodily existence with my mind, and that too was a conscious decision. And from the outside my body looked, all at once, so beautiful and so helpless.

What surprised me in this dream wasn’t the concept itself, but its incredible realism and the astonishing controllability of everything happening. I was struck by how vividly and distinctly I could steer the whole process, as if I were the director of my own dream — and yet it was all unfolding by someone else’s script.

I won’t draw any conclusions. It’s just a dream, from which, sadly, I forgot more than 80% of the details the moment I woke up. It took me two days to recover even the general sense of it. But even in that — an interesting experience.

Here’s to beautiful and memorable dreams, everyone! 😎
